How To Improve The 5 Aspects of Holistic Health

Physical

  • Sleep plays a very important role in maintaining your physical health. You need to obtain a certain amount of hours each night in order for your body to repair and prepare itself for the next day.

  • Eating nutrient rich meals

  • Limiting alcohol consumption, and prohibiting smoking/vaping

  • Reducing sugar intake. High blood sugar can have multiple negative risks on your physical health.

  • Providing your body with the proper amount of water each day (men should intake around 15 cups while women need around 12 cups). This will help your body flush toxins, aid digestion, regulate blood pressure and body temperature, and much more.

    Emotional

  • Regulate stressors in your life by practising mindfulness.

  • Don’t be afraid of therapy, it can be very beneficial in maintaining your  emotional health by working through any trauma, anxieties or stressors in your past, present, or future life.

  • Practising positive thinking and thankfulness. Write down what you're thankful for each morning or each night. By taking the time to write it down, you are spending time fully focused on it. When you are focused on what you are thankful for you are putting your mind into a positive state, not allowing for negative emotions to overcome you.

    Spiritual

  • Finding something you believe in and finding a community with shared values. Having a belief system often gives you a purpose to your life.

  • Finding something you enjoy such as practising yoga, spending time in nature, or just any hobby such as painting. Doing something you enjoy provides purpose to your life.

    Mental

  • Sleep (again)! Sleep is important in maintaining healthy neural connections in your brain responsible for processing, thinking, and memory. Having a good night's sleep also allows for more controlled thinking, and more clear thinking.

  • Finding something that keeps your brain active such as puzzles, problem-solving, learning new tasks or subjects, anything that challenges your brain. This can strengthen neural connections and help in memory and overall processing.

  • Nutrient dense meals are important in providing the brain what it needs to function. Some examples include omega-3 fatty acids and choline. These nutrients help support brain health.

    Social

  • In-person interactions are very important to social health. With so much of our lives being online, it is important to understand that in-person connections are much more beneficial in supporting our social health.

  • Find activities in your community that bring you joy, this will provide you with relationships that share common interests

  • Ensuring you surround yourself with positive social interaction, if there are relationships in your life that are not providing positivity these can put a damper on your social health. It is important to set boundaries and it is okay to minimise or even eliminate relationships that bring negativity and toxicity into your life.

  • Remember to talk to your loved ones and tell them you love them. Communicating in relationships is key to a healthy social aspect.

An important thing that is beneficial to all 5 aspects includes improving one's gut-health. Gut health is so important for many occurrences in the body such as nutrient absorption. Proper nutrient absorption is important for brain health, hormone assembly, proper sleep, energy production, and so much more. As you discussed above each of these have a role in each of the 5 aspects. Brain health is important for physical, emotional, mental and even social health. For example, positive social health requires you to be able to process and communicate, which requires a healthy brain. Gut health is so layered it deserves its own blog, which it will get eventually. Stick around to understand more about your body and how to take your health into your own hands.
